Don't miss our Annual Bird Fair, Sunday, February 26, 2006!

Minutes of MAEBS business meeting, 17 September 2005

We met at Diane Rush's house. First on the agenda was a thank-you to Treasurer Paul Parsons for procuring a storage unit for our club stuff. I think all of us are also thankful for the use of his basement before the storage unit was rented! (I am also assuming that it was Paul who moved all of our stuff from his basement to the storage unit, so I am including that in my thank-you.) We then thanked Frank Wilhoit for assuming the time- consuming job of newsletter editor. Frank is a computer whiz in his own right and we are all grateful for his accpetance of this job right after joining our ranks as a club member.

Next we discussed future newsletter contents and the possibility of syndicating articles by various writers on psittacine care.

We were extremely relieved that Melisse Shifrin agreed to tackle the exhausting job of Bird Fair chairperson for her third consecutive year. We remember how she pulled an all-nighter last February redesigning the vendor layout to accomodate last-minute applications! Thank you, Melisse!

On the topic of speakers, Diane Rush volunteered to ask vet tech Tom Cooper to speak at our May 2006 meeting. I volunteered to contact Katy McElroy of Hornbeam Aviary to speak at the March 2006 meeting. Katy is a noted speaker and writer, as well aas a top-quality breeder of several species of cockatoos. We also discussed the possibility of renting the Safari Club meeting room for that date if Katy is available.

We voted to join the American Federation of Aviculture. The Treasurer was asked to send them payment for a membership.

With THAT MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR approaching, we decided on Saturday 10 December as the date for our Christmas party. Diane Rush volunteered her house once again. The festivities will begin at 7pm. We will have our usual popular bird gift exchange. We certainly had a great time at last year's party! We need to discuss food in more detail at the November meeting.

We discussed having a toy-making session at the November meeting, after the election of officers. We also voted to have a bird joke/anecdote sharing time at the end of each meeting.

After the meeting was adjourned, the officers and other interested members stayed to work on drafting the club by-laws. The Buffalo Hookbill Association supplied us with a copy of their by-laws to use as a model. Thanks to the knowledgeable Buffalo folks for their help with this task.

Respectfully submitted,
