Minutes of MAEBS business meeting, 20 November 2005
After congregating at our usual meeting place of Diane Rush’s Westerville home,
Vice-president Terri Vance called the meeting to order. She said that Dr.
Ram Mohan had informed her that he had taken many phone calls from bird owners
who had serious concerns over the avian flu epidemic in Asia. He would like
to come to a meeting to speak to us on what is currently known about this
illness. We decided to ask him to speak briefly at our January meeting, and
to ask him if he would like to speak on this serious topic from the stage at
our bird fair on Feb. 26, 2006.
Elections were held, and as Pat Rucker had wished not to continue as president,
Terri said that she would take over that position, and Diane Rush offered to
assist her as vice-president. As no one enthusiastically leapt forward to
challenge me for the job of recording secretary, I am doing the job again this
next year. Paul Parsons will continue as treasurer, since no one voiced a
burning desire to assume responsibility for the club’s finances.
Bird Fair (Feb. 26, 2006) business: we briefly discussed vendor applications
and advertising. I posted free event ads on Birdsnways, Parrot Expo, and Bird
Mart websites. I passed around Birdsnways.com and Parrotexpo.com information
on paid advertising on their sites for our fair. We decided on the size of ad
and Paul wrote me checks to send to these 2 websites for advertising. Terri
said she would call Steve Hartman so that he could begin contacting local
media for advertising.
Talk then turned to the subject of our club website. Frank Wilhoit
volunteered to help restart our website. Terri offered to call Sandy, former
webmaster (webmistress?), to see if she would assist Frank in updating our
different links.
Speakers: Diane called vet tech Tom Cooper, who will speak at our May 21, 2006
meeting. I am still awaiting a reply from Katy McElroy for our annual
speaker/seminar date of March 19, 2006. Everyone expressed a desire once more
to have a pre-speaker breakfast meeting to rehash the fair and conduct normal
club business at the Safari Club, which is the venue we decided upon for our
March speaker event.
We are looking forward to our Christmas party on Dec. 10, 7PM, here at Diane’s
house. Everyone is to bring a gift for a bird (or bird-related present) for
our party gift exchange.
We then adjourned for our toy-making session. Many, many thanks to Paul
Parsons who procured a box of toy-making supplies from our much-loved vendor,
LJO Leather!
Congratulations to former club president Pat Rucker on her marriage in Greece
this fall! We hope all club members had a safe and blessed holiday season.
Respectfully submitted,
Annie Artrup
Recording Secretary
